The Norwegian Petroleum Museum

CLIENT: THE NORWEGIAN PETROLEUM MUSEUM
PROJECT: CONCEPT FOR PERMANENT EXHIBITION
LOCATION: STAVANGER, NORWAY
In an invited competition the concept “The secrets of the sea” Kvorning Design & Communication  landed the contract for a new exhibition about petroleum geology at The Norwegian Petroleum Museum. The concept will give the Stavanger museum a new iconic element – an exhibition with a stunningly grand visual effect – which lure both youngsters and adults far down beneath the seabed.

The exhibition features science, activities and drama. In all parts of the exhibition hearts, brains and muscles of both children and grown-ups will be put to test. Zones with analogue and digital activities encourage the whole family to collaborate, learn and play.

The design of the exhibition is inspired by the sea. Travels in the sea and along the seabed, followed by huge waves or a whirlpool. The inspiration stems from tornadoes, the eyes of hurricanes, whirlpools as well as the human eye. The role of mankind is central. Getting the idea to extract oil from the bottom of the sea, overcoming the technical restrictions and extracting it from the sediments deep down under the seabed.

Kvorning will also design, build and implement the exhibition project.
